After a much-hyped announcement some time ago, Aniplex has released a number of different short teasers introducing specific characters in advance of NieR:Automata Ver1.1a‘s January 2023 air date, such as the lovely and troubled A2. NieR:Automata Ver1.1a seems to be largely a retelling of NieR:Automata, the wildly popular video game that stars everyone’s favorite robot girl, 2B.
Originally released on February 23rd, 2017, NieR:Automata follows the three intertwining stories of 2B, 9S, and A2 as they fight against numerous machines with the goal of preserving human life. However, not all is as it seems, and these androids that are so full of life must decide their own fates.
The creative team set up an official Twitter account where they’ve been keeping fans up to date with things, including releasing a number of posters to promote the series. 2B, 9S, A2, Commander White, and others are shown in all of their glory. To add further hype to the announcements, much of the video game’s voice cast have reprised their roles for the anime series.
The most recent PV showcases some scenes with A2, a prototype android that was designed to be superior to other models. She fought in the early stages of the 14th Machine War, and it’s left her less than happy about the current state of things. In her PV, it’s implied that she’s about to destroy a number of machines, since we’re not shown such an epic battle itself. This is a teaser, after all.
The first PV showcased 2B herself, the warrior-type android and best girl of NieR:Automata, appearing on the scene with a slash of her sword. After a presumed battle, she does a perfect hero landing and turns to face a dark room with her lethal blade and Pod buddy ready. This scene is likely taken from the first level in the game, given the rusted metal and massive spinning wheels of death. As serious and quiet as she can be, she’s still kind.
The second PV shows off 9S, the scanner-type android, and best boy of NieR:Automata, who provides plenty of tech support for the best girl 2B. He takes on most challenges with his superb hacking skills, but he doesn’t lack in armed combat either, as he is able to take on the same enemies 2B and A2 slice through.
The third PV introduces Commander White herself, the leader of the YoRHa units, and the one who generally calls the shots aboard the space station called ‘The Bunker’. She leads the androids in the war against the machines to bring glory to mankind. Neither here nor there, but her holding that stick thing makes her look better.
The fourth PV introduces one of the more curious characters of NieR:Automata, Pascal the machine pacifist. He leads a village of pacifist machines and teaches them to be kind, while also showing an interest in history, specifically that of humans and machines.
The fifth PV introduces Adam and Eve, the androgynous enigmatic enemies of NieR:Automata. Adam is more calm, collected, and analytical, while Eve is more simple and quick to action without thought. Both are merciless in their pursuit of their unknown goals.
Finally, we have the sixth PV, featuring Lily, a character that didn’t appear in-game, but she was present during A2’s descent to Pearl Harbor years before the events of NieR:Automata.
As was mentioned before, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a will premiere sometime in January 2023, and may further flesh out an already incredible game franchise. Are you looking forward to it?
