As though we didn’t have enough new anime to wade through in October! Once we get past that, fans of the OG slime isekai will have a brand-new three-episode OVA to get through titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Coleus’ Dream.
The source of the story is a four-part text story included with the season two Blu-ray releases (meaning the story takes place between seasons one and two). In the story, Rimuru is on a quest to the kingdom of Coleus, where a power struggle is flaring up with their king on his deathbed. On one side is Prince Souther (voiced by Atsushi Tamaru), who has the backing of the nobility. The other side is Prince Aslan (Masaya Matsukaze), backed by the Free Guild.
All three episodes of the OVA will hit various corners of the Japanese internet on November 1st. Unfortunately, as of this writing, no plans to release the OVA in English have been announced. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
BACKGROUND
Fuse originally authored the light novel on the famous self-publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime will be up to its planned penultimate volume 21 in Japan by the end of October 2023. The author has stated that he would like to end the series with volume 22 (famous last words, I’m sure) but wouldn’t mind writing side stories and spinoffs once the main tale is complete. Yen Press publishes the light novel in English and will be up to volume seventeen by the end of 2023.
It’s hard to believe that That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has been with us in anime form since 2018. This quirky little isekai has become an entertainment staple worldwide in the past five years. With a brand-new television season set to premiere in 2024, though, there is no need to worry about the continuation of this entertaining series ending anytime soon.
And if you want a little slime of your own, the J-List store has you covered with this adorable cup noodle buddy!
