Zombie Land Saga has always done things in unusual ways. You might recall back in 2019 when they released a live-action promo video to announce that the series would be getting a second season. Guess what they did to announce the production of a brand new movie?
If you guessed, post a three-minute live-action video featuring two of the voice actors having an intense argument about Saga prefecture that ends with one of them getting shot to death, you win the prize (spoiler: There is no prize.).
No further details were provided in the announcement video (which stars Hakuryuu and Kunio Murai who are both from Saga prefecture) but as always, stay tuned to the J-List Blog for more updates as they become available.
Zombie Land Saga is an original series produced by studio MAPPA (Kids on the Slope, Yuri!!! on Ice, Kagegurui). The first season aired in the fall of 2018. The second season was supposed to air soon afterward but we kind of all know the story of the world being on fire for the last couple of years which delayed the debut of the second season until the spring 2021 season.
The basic plot of the series follows a teenage girl in 2008 named Sakura Minamoto who, on the very morning that she decides she wants to be an idol, has a run-in with Truck-kun. Revived as a zombie a decade later, Sakura is forced to join the all zombie idol group called Franchouchou — which is filled with idols from various eras of Japanese history — in an attempt to revive Saga prefecture.
Zombie Land Saga is a series that caught me by surprise when it first aired. I didn’t expect to like it but once I got to about the halfway mark, this series really started to click with me and made me laugh more than a few times. This is exciting news for fans of the franchise and I’m already looking forward to hearing more details over the coming weeks and months!
