Things are always moving in the world of the Love Live! School Idol Project. Every few years, it seems, a new group of talented idols in the series is introduced, from the iconic first group μ’s to the follow-up group Aquors and the newest batch of superstars, the Nijigasaki Academy’s School Idol Appreciation Club. Currently, the third group is mostly only a presence in the recently released Love Live! All Stars mobile game. While they’re still growing and expanding and eventually getting an anime, a fourth crew is already on their way in an upcoming television anime project. Now, we know that the name of that anime series is Love Live! Superstar!!.
In addition to news of the title of the anime, Kadokawa’s Love Live! Days Love Live! Sōgō Magazine Vol. 08 magazine plans to run a voting campaign to help determine the name of the anime’s idol group and the logo used for their school, Yuigaoka Girls High School.
We also got a new story reveal for the upcoming anime from the official website:
Yuigaoka Girls High School is a newly established school that lies between the Omotesando, Harajuku, and Aoyama neighborhoods of Tokyo. The story centers on its first batch of students. With no history, no upperclassmen or alumni, and no reputation, it is a school full of unknowns.
Five girls, among them Kanon Shibuya, have a fateful encounter with school idols. Kanon decides, “I love singing. I want to make something come true with song!” Many feelings converge upon a star that has only started to grow. The future is blank and full of possibility for these girls, and their story that everyone will make possible has only just begun. Soar with your wings, our Love Live!
From left to right, the main cast of idols in Love Live! Superstar!! are Chisato Arashi, Sumire Heanna, Kanon Shibuya, Tang Keke, and Ren Hazuki.
Creation of this new Love Live! Superstar!! anime project is credited to Hajime Yatate, a pseudonym used to identify the general creative team at Sunrise. Sakurako Kimino is also credited with the creation of the original idea for the series, as he was for the previous anime in the franchise. Takahiko Kyogoku, who directed the first Love Live! School idol project anime and its film sequel, will return to direct this new series. He’s joined by series writer Jukki Hanada and series composer Yoshiaki Fujisawa. Atsushi Saito of Black Fox fame will be adapting the character designs of franchise artist Yuhei Murota for animation.
