Earlier this week we reported on an original romantic comedy, Love Flops, that I referred to as ‘good concept, bad timing’ due to it trying to sell an unproven story in a season packed with highly anticipated sequels. Now I’ve returned to report on another series set to premiere in the upcoming fall 2022 season, which stands a slightly better chance of making a dent in the global otaku consciousness; I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming The Final Boss.
Adapting the light novel of the same name written by Sarasa Nagase and illustrated by Mai Murasaki, in this series that is being animated by studio MAHO FILM, the main character is a young noblewoman named Aileen who was engaged to a prince until she was cast aside. It’s at that point that Aileen realizes that she’s been isekai’d into the world of her favorite otome game in the villainess’s role. And we all know what happens to the villainess in these games. Not wanting to end up a casualty of the story, Aileen ventures out to find the final boss and see what he thinks about forming an alliance.
Now that we’ve learned about the story, let’s talk about the team members who will bring this series to life!
As of this writing, the cast list for this series reads as follows (character names first):
Aileen Lauren Dautriche: Rie Takahashi
Claude Jean Elmir: Yuichiro Umehara
Cedric Jean Elmir: Toshiki Masuda
Keith Elgrid: Jun Fukuyama
Belzebuth: Yuki Ono
Lilia Rainworth: Kana Hanazawa
Almond: Tomokazu Sugita
It’s also worth noting that this article is using the anime romanizations for these names and not the spellings used in the official English releases put out by Yen Press.
As for the crew, the director is listed as Kumiko Habara who will oversee a large team that includes three character designers (Momoko Makiuchi, Eri Kojima, and Yūko Ōba) and five background music composers (Natsumi Tabuchi, Hanae Nakamura, Miki Sakurai, Sayaka Aoki, and Kanade Sakuma).
You’ll notice that I didn’t mention who is writing this series. I did this intentionally because I want everyone to notice this bit. Kenta Ihara is writing the series scripts; over the last few years Ihara has been slowly gaining more and more experience as an anime writer but he’s primarily known for darker series such as Vinland Saga, Mieruko-chan, Saga of Tanya the Evil, and Tomodachi Game along with a smattering of light-hearted pieces. This information intrigues me and makes me wonder about what the overall tone of this series will be.
