There aren’t enough words in the English language to tell you how excited I am about the upcoming Spy x Family anime adaptation. With that in mind, please remember that no matter how excited I sound in this article, I want you to double that in your mind in order to get the proper amount of enthusiasm I’m trying to convey across.
Over this past weekend, brand new details were revealed along with a new promotional video which reveals not only two more primary cast members but also details on the series release. First, since I know that’s what you’re here for anyway, let’s go to the video!
As you can see in the nearly two-minute video, not only are we getting a Spy x Family anime adaptation but it’s going to be a split-cour series as well, with the first half hitting Japanese networks and Crunchyroll in April 2022! This means that before the next year is over, we’ll be getting two full cours of Anya-related goodness! Also, as seen in the video, we can now reveal that Yor Briar will be played by Saori Hayami and Anya will be played by Atsumi Tanezaki.
As we already know, Spy x Family will have animation produced by WIT STUDIO (who have been unstoppable lately) and Cloverworks with Kazuhiro Furuhashi serving as the director.
Flat out and full stop, this series is going to be appointment viewing for me once it premieres. I can’t even tell you the last time I was this excited for a new anime adaptation. To be fair, it’s going to be really hard to mess this one up. The promotional video indicates that they are going to stay faithful to the general premise and, so long as they stay on that track, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where this could fall off the rails.
If you’ve never experienced the amazingness of this series, you are in for a wild ride as it’s half action and half heartfelt family comedy that slips from one to the other with ease. While it’s way too early to say that this series has Anime of the Year potential, this should at the very least be on everyone’s 2022 radar.
