In a previous article, I commented on how important this decade is going to be for the industry as a whole and that it will be interesting to see which studios survive to see the next decade. While we could argue all day and night which studio is currently leading the pack, I would make a strong case for a studio that has only been around for a few years, WIT Studio, and if they keep making announcements like this, that case is only going to get stronger.
Netflix recently posted to their official Twitter account revealing that on April 28th, 2022, a brand new original movie titled Bubble will premiere on the service worldwide before it hits Japanese theaters on May 13th. I know that the title doesn’t tell you much, but wait until you hear who is attached to this feature!
As mentioned, WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Vivy – Flourite Eye’s Song, Ancient Magus’ Bride, and many others) will produce the animation with Tetsuro Araki (Attack on Titan) serving as director. He’ll be working off scripts written by the butcher himself, Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero). Handling the character designs will be famous manga artist Takeshi Obata (Death Note) and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan) will compose the background music.
We can also confirm that the cast will include Jun Shison, Mamoru Miyano, Yuki Kaji, and Tasuku Hatanaka.
If you’ve never checked out an anime written by Gen Urobuchi, you are in for a genuine experience! Urobuchi does not hold back with dialing up the emotions and isn’t afraid to play dirty to make you feel those gritty emotions that we normally try to keep hidden deep inside ourselves. Teaming him up with the excellent animation staff at WIT Studio who are capable of quite extraordinary things can only lead to success.
