Back in August, we reported on a new anime adaptation of the manga series Romantic Killer, which will hit Netflix on October 27th. At the time of the initial announcement, Netflix released a short promotional video that gave some vague details of the overall plot and character designs, but little else. With the premiere date now only a few days away, Netflix has released a brand new two-minute promotional video that gives the audience a slightly better idea of the story and the romantic interests that our heroine is trying to avoid.
As you can see in the promotional video, this trailer re-introduces us to the two main characters; the teenager named Anzu Hoshino who wants nothing to do with love (played by Rie Takahashi), and the magical mascot character named Riri who wants to make Anzu’s life into a real-life dating sim where she is surrounded by ikemen (essentially cool/handsome men) including a handsome guy named Tsukasa Kazuki (played by Yuichiro Umehara), the athletic childhood friend named Junta Hayami (played by Gakuto Kajiwara), and a wealthy but troubled youth named Hijiri Koganei (played by Natsuki Hanae).
As previously reported, Romantic Killer will feature animation from studio Domerica, with Kazuya Ichikawa serving as the director. He’ll be working off series composition created by Sayuri Ooba, who is also working alongside Hiroko Fukuda to write the scripts. The character designs are drawn by Arisa Matsuura and finally, the background music is composed by Ryo Kawasaki and Tomoyuki Kono.
Originally a manga created by Wataru Momose, the series launched in Shonen Jump+ in the summer of 2019 but ran for less than a year before ending in June 2020. The series was collected and released in four volumes in Japan, while Viz Media began releasing the English version in October 2022. With only four volumes of material to work off of, I am already curious to see how many episodes Netflix plans to give this series to tell its story.
