The My Hero Academia anime is celebrating a milestone on Saturday, June 12th, with the release of its 100th episode. To celebrate this accomplishment, a brand new key visual was released which features Izuku Midoriya walking along a path paved with memories of previous adventures and other characters he’s met along the way.
Originally a manga series that launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, My Hero Academia has been an unstoppable shonen juggernaut of a series ever since. Praised by many as one of the best series of its decade, it’s not a real shocker that the anime has made it all the way to the mark that dozens of others have already accomplished. That isn’t to diminish the feat; any time an anime reaches the triple-digit mark it’s a cause for celebration, I’m just glad that the staff behind the series didn’t blow it out of proportion.
For those of you who are staring blankly at your screens right now because My Hero Academia hasn’t invaded your corner of the universe yet; this is a superhero series featuring a young man named Izuku who was sadly born with no quirks (or superpowers). That didn’t stop him from dreaming of becoming a superhero like his idol, the #1 hero All Might. After a chance encounter brings the two together, All Might lets Izuku in on his secret, his power can be passed on to other people and he’s chosen the young wannabe hero to bequeath it. Thus begins the young man’s quest to become the greatest hero ever.
The journey towards 100 anime episodes began with a twelve-episode first season in April 2016. From there the series squeezed out a brand new season annually all the way up until this year when the fifth season premiered in March. That number doesn’t include the three movies that have been released. Or the Hollywood remake that is in production.
Congratulations to My Hero Academia for accomplishing a heroic feat!
