The team behind the upcoming anime adaptation of Moriarty the Patriot sure has been quiet over the last few months. After revealing some big details back in March, I would have thought they would keep the excitement alive throughout the summer leading up to the premiere month, but instead we’re getting a massive info dump just a month out from the start of the series, courtesy of a brand new promotional video posted to the official website on Thursday, September 3rd.
As seen in the promotional video, we have all sorts of additional details for the animated adaptation which is set to premiere on October 11th including who will be providing the voices for the starring roles and the theme song artists who will open and close each episode.
In the main, starring roles will be (character names first):
William James Moriarty: Soma Saito
Albert James Moriarty: Takuya Sato
Louis James Moriarty: Chiaki Kobayashi
Sherlock Holmes: Makoto Furukawa
As for the theme songs, the opening song will be titled “DYING WISH,” and is performed by Tasuku Hatanaka. The veteran band STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION will perform the closing theme song titled “ALPHA”.
As previously reported, the series will have animation produced by Production I.G and will feature Kazuya Nomura as director. Tooru Ohkubo will provide character designs. Nomura will be working off scripts created by Go Zappa and Taku Kishimoto.
Moriarty the Patriot is a manga written by Takeuchi Ryousuke and illustrated by Miyoshi Hikaru that first appeared in Jump SQ magazine in August 2016. It has since been compiled into ten volumes. While this will be the first time that the series has received a television adaptation, it isn’t the first time that it has been animated, as a promotional video was produced for the manga back in July 2018.
The story for the manga takes place in Victorian England and follows the sworn enemy of Sherlock Holmes. In this version of the story, Moriarty is an orphan along with his brother and they are adopted into the same family. After growing up in the noble household, the brothers decide to turn to a life of crime with the ultimate objective being to eliminate the class system in England.
On February 14th of this year, Viz Media announced that it had acquired the North American digital and physical licensing rights to the manga and will begin releasing it in the fall 2020 season.
