Moriarty the Patriot is a manga written by Takeuchi Ryousuke and illustrated by Miyoshi Hikaru that first appeared in Jump SQ magazine in August 2016. It has since been compiled into twelve volumes. While this will be the first time that the series has received a television adaptation, it isn’t the first time that it has been animated, as a promotional video was produced for the manga back in July 2018.
The story for the manga takes place in Victorian England and follows the sworn enemy of Sherlock Holmes. In this version of the story, Moriarty is an orphan along with his brother and they are adopted into the same family. After growing up in the noble household, the brothers decide to turn to a life of crime with the ultimate objective being to eliminate the class system in England.
On February 14th, 2020, Viz Media announced that it had acquired the North American digital and physical licensing rights to the manga and released the first volume on October 6th.
