Happy Lunar new year to all of us!
In a new visual posted to the Internet on January 24th, it was confirmed that the second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime will premiere in October 2020! No word yet on if the cast and crew will remain the same (we do know that studio 8-Bit is returning to produce the animation at least) or if there will be any changes made, but stay tuned here for more information as facts become available.
Originally a light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah, the first volume hit store shelves in Japan in May 2014. As of September 2019, there are fifteen volumes in print. The series has been released in English by Yen Press since September 2017, with seven volumes printed as of December 2019. A manga adaptation was launched in Japan in October 2015. Kodansha USA holds the English rights to the manga and has published eleven volumes as of October 2019.
The anime adaptation produced by studio 8-Bit hit the airwaves in October 2018 and ran for two cours. It features Yasuhito Kikuchi as director and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling the series composition. The anime was licensed and released in English by Funimation, who describes the series as:
Average 37-year-old Minami Satoru dies and is reincarnated as the most unremarkable creature imaginable—a slime. Initially, things are pretty grim. He’s blind, deaf, and weak. But by combining his two special abilities, “Predator” and “Great Sage,” the newly named, Rimuru Tempest, will use his blobby powers to gain both friends and foes alike in a diverse new world.
The series has received a boatload of praise from fans around the world and the main character even won the ‘Best Protagonist’ category at the 2019 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, beating out heavyweights that included Violet Evergarden (Violet Evergarden), Retsuko (Aggretsuko), and Sakuta Azusagawa (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai).
