Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid Second Season Key Visual 02

This summer is going to be amazing!

In an update that hit the official Twitter account in the evening hours of Thursday, January 14th, a brand new key visual (seen above) and premiere month announcement went live for the second season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, simply titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S (The “S” stands for “Super Supreme Second life Starts”).

The previously announced second season will premiere in July 2021 and will feature a returning voice cast and animation produced by Kyoto Animation. In terms of the crew, the studio is staying tight-lipped about who will replace director Yasuhiro Takemoto, who sadly perished in the Kyoto Animation arson attack that occurred in July 2019.

The last time we heard anything about this season was on December 24th, when four promotional videos were released, which all showed footage from the first season and re-introduced audiences to four of the various dragons who are in the series.

Originally a manga series created by Coolkyousinnjya which began serializing in 2013 in Monthly Action magazine, the main series has been compiled into nine volumes and multiple spinoff manga thus far, featuring different main characters. The first anime season aired from January 2017 to April and was wildly popular with fans and critics. It was streamed on both Crunchyroll and Funimation. The second season was originally announced back in February 2019 but was delayed due to the previously mentioned attack on the studio.

As I’ve said before, this is easily one of my most highly anticipated sequels of the entire year. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid was my Anime Comedy of the Year for 2017, which is an opinion shared by many, as the series took home the award for “Best Comedy” at the 2018 edition of Crunchyroll’s annual Anime Awards. This summer can’t come soon enough!
