I got into the hit television series Made in Abyss a bit late. By the time I got around to it, it had been at least a year since it finished airing. Once I saw it though, I knew that I wanted more and was very glad when a sequel movie was announced after the release of the first of two compilation movies in early 2019.
For months I have waited patiently for the promised sequel movie to be released, but to tide me over until that day (January 17, 2020, in Japan for those of you wondering), I at least have this brand new trailer which was uploaded to the official Kadokawa Anime YouTube account on November 20th.
Based on the Made in Abyss manga series, created by Akihito Tsukushi, the television series aired in the summer of 2017. In the series, a young girl named Riko goes on an adventure and travels deep into the pit known as the Abyss which houses rare artifacts from a long-dead civilization. The further one goes into the Abyss, however, the more likely one is to suffer from a potentially fatal illness upon returning to the surface. The series features animation produced by studio Kinema Citrus. It was directed by Masayuki Kojima and written by Hideyuki Kurata.
Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul has already been licensed by Sentai Filmworks and they describe the story as:
Dawn of the Deep Soul continues the epic adventure of plucky Riko and Reg who are joined by their new friend Nanachi. Together they descend into the Abyss’ treacherous fifth layer, the Sea of Corpses, and encounter the mysterious Bondrewd, a legendary White Whistle whose shadow looms over Nanachi’s troubled past. Bondrewd is ingratiatingly hospitable, but the brave adventurers know things are not always as they seem in the enigmatic Abyss…
