Did you hear the news? Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (or just Wotakoi for short) is getting a live-action movie adaptation and a new trailer just hit the Internet on August 13th! The movie adapts the manga of the same name which debuted on the image sharing site Pixiv in 2014, before being serialized on Comic Pool in late 2015.
Set to debut in Japanese theaters on February 7, 2020, the movie will tell the story of two adult otaku who work in the same office building and decide to get into a romantic relationship with each other. If you missed the anime adaptation which aired during the spring 2018 season, you’ll definitely want to check this movie out!
The manga that the anime and live-action movie is based on has been a favorite for readers around the world since its debut, with compiled volumes consistently appearing on the Oricon sales charts. In addition to being a strong seller, the title has won multiple awards and honors, including being ranked first in the 2016 edition of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook, and was nominated in the General Manga category at the 2017 Kodansha Manga Awards.
If you’re one of the many adults in any country who has ever complained about there being too many anime and manga series featuring high school stories, this is a series that you should go out of your way to see! Hilarious yet relatable, this series about working adults trying to juggle their professional responsibilities with the hobbies that they love will surely resonate with adults who struggle with that very same thing on a daily basis.
Be sure to support this movie when it’s released in your local theaters. If the trailer is any indication, fans are going to be in for a real treat when this one finally hits the big screen!
