Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudo (What God Does in a World Without Gods) is a unique isekai series where the god, in this case, the goddess, goes with him to the other world. Unfortunately, that world isn’t the best, the isekai protagonist doesn’t have cheat-like abilities, and the goddess is low on power because she doesn’t have followers.
The series is set to premiere sometime in April, and Studio Palette released a trailer to hype people up. The trailer has a series of manga covers at the end, suggesting that the manga creators know how to sell their manga to their audience.
Studio Palette has also set up a home page and official Twitter account where fans and potential viewers can get further series information and bonuses, such as the key art below. They made a lot of visuals with the cute goddess Mitama sitting on the shoulders of an exasperated Yukito Urabe. She’s shown with different expressions, some cute, and a couple, not so much. A couple faces are downright horrifying.
The manga series writer Aoi Akashiro and the legendary voice actress Megumi Ogata, who voices Kullen in the anime adaptation, have both begun to hype up the anime’s announcement and premiere on Twitter too.
A World Without Gods Has a New Goddess
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudo, often shortened to KamiKatsu, features a relatively different isekai story. For one difference, the protagonist has no cheat-like ability, so there’s no one-hit kill move at his disposal. For another, his god, or goddess, joins him in the other world. And that world has no gods to speak of, further reducing the goddess’s power.
Yukito Urabe is the son of two cult members, part of a larger group that worships the goddess Mitama. He, unfortunately, died during a ceremony that would have made him the new leader. The goddess Mitama brought him back to life, but to another world lacking gods and worshippers. While Yukito learns about the world and their strange views on death, he dies again while trying to rescue the pretty girl who likes him. As he dies, he calls out to Mitama. She unexpectedly appears and saves them both while showing Yukito’s would-be killer some divine wrath. Mitama’s power is reduced in the godless world, but she still retains enough divine force to earn some respect.
Thus, their adventures in a new world, with an empire that doesn’t believe in “gods” or that death is something to be feared, have begun. The first step is for Yukito to follow his parents’ path and start a religion with Mitama as the deity, all so she can become omnipotent again and save them from the empire.
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudo Origins
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudo, or KamiKatsu for short, began as a manga series written by Aoi Akashiro and illustrated by Sonsho Hangetsuban. Hero’s Inc. began publishing the series on November 25th, 2022, with six volumes available for fans to purchase and read.
