Fans of the twisted gambling series Kakegurui probably have a ringing in their ears right now, thanks to a big announcement that hit Twitter late at night on Tuesday, June 8th. In the announcement, TMS Entertainment, KADOKAWA, and Sammy Corporation revealed that they are going to be collaborating on a brand new mixed media project called High Card.
As the title implies, the concept will center on the game of poker, but they released no further details regarding the story. Being that this collaborative project is still in its infancy, the committee is being understandably tight-lipped about many of the details. We know that the writer of Kakegurui, Homura Kawamoto, will work on the project along with artist ebimo. It was also revealed that the project will have an anime produced by TMS Entertainment, along with manga and novelizations.
I’m behind on Kakegurui. I watched the first season on Netflix, loved it, but never found the time to watch the second season. Hearing that the writer is attached to this new project though has me more than a little intrigued. Poker is a fascinating game of skill all on its own, but add in the imaginative high stakes that we know Kawamoto for creating in other series and you have the potential for a massively compelling story. This is a project that I will be keeping a very close eye on in the coming weeks and months.
With any luck, it won’t take too long before we hear more details on this one and maybe even see something the resembles a promotional video? I can be patient though, sometimes in games of skill, it’s better to wait for the moment when you can make the biggest impact rather than go all-in at the wrong time.
Stay tuned to the J-List Blog for more updates on this project as they are revealed.
