More sad news to report on today, especially if you’re a fan of Jun Maeda.
According to a tweet posted to the official Twitter account, the upcoming game from Maeda (his first in over a dozen years) will be delayed until February 2022. The reason cited for the delay was “in order for the game to be stable at release.”

The upcoming mobile RPG titled Heaven Burns Red (still an awesome title, by the way) has been delayed twice now. A collaboration between famed visual novel studio Key and smartphone developer Wright Flyer Studios, Heaven Burns Red was originally supposed to be released in 2020 before it was delayed to 2021 and now it’s being delayed once again. For all the waiting that fans have been having to deal with, I certainly hope that nothing hideously ironic goes wrong with the launch in February.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the developments for this game, allow me to catch you up.
The story for the game involves a world that has been almost completely overtaken by life forms known as “Cancer” and has driven humanity to the brink of extinction. In a corner, humanity develops a new weapon called Seraph, which is capable of defeating the cancer. The main character is named Ruka Kayamori and belongs to the 31A Squad. The story follows her struggle to defeat the cancer once and for all.
The most unfortunate part of this story is the lack of confirmation on if the game will receive a global release at any point or if it’s going to be limited to Japan. Based on the fact that the only mobile store listings available at the moment are in Japanese, it’s difficult to have hope that this game will be released in English in the near future (or at all) but stranger things have happened and I’ve been wrong before.
