This was a long time coming. The wholesome rejuvenating manga series Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru (Grandpa and Grandma are Rejuvenated) is receiving an anime adaptation. Only one chapter into the manga would tell anyone that an anime adaptation was inevitable. This story is about an elderly couple becoming young again and continuing to live the rest of their lives as best they can. Clearly, they’re still very much in love. We won’t see the next phase of their lives play until the series premieres sometime in April 2024. Until then, let’s enjoy the new trailer.
Kagiri Araido first released his Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru manga series on October 26th, 2019. Media Factory has since published seven volumes in the MF Comics and Monthly Comic Alunna magazine.
Our titular grandparents and two of their granddaughters are as follows:
- Shozo Seizo — Shin-ichiro Miki (James / Kojiro in Pokémon). An elderly apple farmer from Aomori. He mysteriously returned to his youth. Now young, he wants to romance his wife again.
- Ine Seizo — Mamiko Noto (Fil Nilvalen from No Game No Life). Shozo’s wife, who works on the farm with him. She mysteriously returned to her youth, but life continues as always.
- Mino Seizo — Shiori Mikami (Sailor Lethe from Sailor Moon). A popular girl at school who finds a new appreciation for her grandparents after they become young.
- Shiori Seizo — Nao Toyama (Ruka Sarashina from Rent-A-Girlfriend). Shiori’s argument with her parents brought her to her grandparents’ house so tempers could cool down. She acts tough and moody, but her Shozo and Ine can get through to her in no time flat.

Find Wholesome Love and Youth in Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru
An elderly couple, still young at heart, have experienced a miracle. In Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru, Shozo and Ine Seizo, apple farmers from Aomori, awoke one morning to find themselves younger again. Though they were well into their golden years, they now look to be in their 20s at most. Shozo immediately capitalized on their new situation to fulfill any lingering regrets they might have had. He previously regretted never taking Ine out on a honeymoon. Of course, Ine was excited by it, and Shozo, with his renewed libido, was eager to see his wife in a swimsuit.
Ine and Shozo’s children and grandchildren were quite surprised by their renewed youth. The townspeople were equally surprised. However, no one questioned it too much, and these two can continue their lives as they always have. They’ll be there for friends and family and use their new vigor, years of wisdom, and experience to show these kids how to do things correctly.
