It’s been quite some time since we last discussed TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Dochu / Journey in an Alternate World Guided by the Moon). Our protagonist was set up to be a typical isekai hero. The isekai goddess turned out to be vain and cruel despite her beauty. Things could have ended there had one of his local gods not stepped in to help. Fans will see his story continue after patiently waiting for over two years. It won’t be much longer until the January 2024 premiere. Until that glorious day arrives, let’s enjoy the new trailer.
Kei Azumi first published his TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- novel to Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2012. AlphaPolis would later pick up the publishing rights, and the artist Mitsuaki Matsumoto was hired to adapt the series to light novel format. Eighteen volumes have been published as of 2013.
Our isekai protagonist, who was ruthlessly cast aside, and a couple of friends are as follows:
- Makoto Misumi — Natsuki Hanae (YoRHa No. 9 Type S (9S) in Nier: Automata Ver1.1a). The goddess collected him for her world as part of a deal with his parents. Though he was cast aside, he is managing to find his own way in this new world.
- Tomoe — Ayane Sakura (Ochaco Uraraka in My Hero Academia). A mighty dragon girl with untold power. She joins Makoto as a companion and later a lover.
- Mio — Akari Kito (Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). A powerful spider girl with untold might. She joins Makoto as a companion and later a lover.

Cast Aside in Another World
TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- takes a unique approach to the isekai genre. A goddess spirits Makoto Misumi away from his world to hers. His parents traveled from that world to Earth, and the goddess claimed their son to be a hero as part of their deal. However, the goddess is cruel and vain. She dismissed Makoto as “ugly,” stripped him of the Hero title, and banished him to the wasteland. To add insult to injury, she cursed him to only be able to communicate with non-human beings.
The moon god, Tsukuyomi, took notice of this cruel treatment and offered Makoto his blessings, which granted him plentiful power to live a happy life in the other world. He was the judge for the initial contract that allowed a passageway between the worlds, and he took things a step further to protect Makoto. Clearly, he is the Best God. With these new powers, Makoto would make his own way in the world, together with some cute non-human waifus.
