In/Spectre Season 2 has premiered this month, continuing a series that began in 2020. Though fans were likely hoping for a 1:1 adaptation of Kyo Shirodaira’s seminal work In/Spectre, the first episode is actually an anime original, meaning that the events taking place in season 2, episode 1 of the animated version of In/Spectre are not an adaptation from his novel series. Fortunately, Mr. Shirodaira is writing the episode, and Chasiba Katase, the illustrator who began work on the original novel series from volume 2 onwards, has stepped in to design new monsters, all of which should start the second season of In/Spectre off properly.
For those new to the series, In/Spectre follows the tale of Kuro Sakuragawa, a high school student with inhuman abilities he gained from eating yokai flesh at a young age, and Kotoko Iwanaga, another student bearing the title of Goddess of Wisdom, and their adventures in a world where supernatural elements are closer than one might assume. Viewers and fans of In/Spectre should expect love, romance, and mystery.
Crunchyroll, who is currently streaming the series in the West, released a trailer in advance of In/Spectre‘s second season. After a two year wait, the fans likely needed something to get them hyped for Kuro and Kotoko’s new adventures. In/Spectre may be a touch on the dark side for some viewers, so please bear that in mind when watching the series.
A key visual for In/Spectre was also released, which highlights the supernatural and ethereal nature of the series.
Another added bonus for fans of In/Spectre is an accompanying music video performed by KanoeRana, who sings the ending theme Yotogibanashi. The music video doesn’t depict scenes from In/Spectre, but it is still plenty spooky, and the music is still great to listen to. Fans of KanoeRana and In/Spectre can listen to Yotogibanashi on the go via Spotify.
KanoeRana also posted the jacket for her newest digital single featuring In/Spectre‘s theme song.
In/Spectre, known in Japan as Kyokō Suiri (Invented Inference), began as a novel series written by Kyo Shirodaira, and illustrated first by Hiro Kyohara, and later by Chasiba Katase. Kodansha handled publishing the novels, and the subsequent manga adaptation in 2015, where Chasiba Katase reprised his role as illustrator for the manga series. To date, the manga version has a total of seventeen volumes to its name, providing plenty of material to be adapted for the anime.
