Not all isekai protagonists get to live the good second life. Our new protagonist is reborn as a magic sword, albeit with some very useful cheat skills. He won’t let that get him down. Like any man of culture, he just wants a cute fantasy waifu to hold him and wrap those fingers around his grip. His first isekai world friend just happens to be a cute cat girl. We’ll see how his second life as a weapon meant for a girl’s use plays out when Reincarnated as a Sword (Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita) Season 2 premieres sometime in October 2026.

Yuu Tanaka released the original Reincarnated as a Sword novel series on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro between October 17th, 2015, and February 29th, 2024. Llo provided art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on July 30th, 2016. Micro Magazine published twenty volumes in the GC Novels imprint. Tomowo Maruyama provided art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on December 9th, 2016. Gentosha published nineteen volumes in Comic Boost.
Reincarnated as a Sword Cast
The magic sword, his wielder, and their weird friend are as follows:
- Teacher — Shin-ichiro Miki (James / Kojiro from Pokémon). “Teacher” was once a Japanese salaryman. A distracted driver and Car-chan sent him to another world.
- Fran — Ai Kakuma (Chino from Naruto Shippuden). Fran is a black cat beastman and former slave who wields Teacher.
- Jean Du Vix — Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro from Jujutsu Kaisen). Jean is a necromancer and far kinder than he appears.

Reincarnated as a Sword to Help a Cute Girl in Battle
An unnamed Japanese salaryman met an abrupt end; a distracted driver was too busy texting and failed to see him cross the street. The salaryman awoke in another world brimming with magic, and being an otaku, he immediately realized what had happened to him. It’s fun to see isekai protagonists realize that they’re isekai protagonists. He didn’t awaken already surrounded by girls, and he certainly didn’t get a young and energetic body. Instead, he’s now a magic sword, and he must kill.
He spent a month exploring his surroundings and hunting down the monsters he found there. His RPG-like stats increased with each kill, and the number of skills he inherited from his defeated foes ballooned. At the same time, a poor slave cat girl was about to meet her end. He encouraged her to draw him and fight for her life. The cat girl inherited new power from him and slew the monster. He then proceeded to kill her slave master and free her. Fran isn’t the busty girl of his dreams, but she’s cute, and he was looking for a proper wielder anyway.
