Break out your glow sticks and dust off your wotagei shoes, it’s time for another new idol anime adaptation announcement!
This time the series in question is the hit manga, Oshi no Ko from the dream team made up of the creators of Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Scum’s Wish (stylized as【Oshi no Ko】and roughly translated as Favorite Girl). While we don’t have a promotional video to show you or a release date to share, the announcement came with some key staff members who will bring this title to life.
The animation for this series will be handled by moe factory, studio Doga Kobo with Daisuke Hiramaki and Chao Nekotomi serving as director and assistant director, respectively. They will work off series composition created by Jin Tanaka and character designs provided by Kanna Hirayama.
Written by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama) and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish), Oshi no Ko has only been running for a couple of years but is already up to almost eight published volumes in Japan (volume eight drops on shelves later this month). The series is being serialized in English on the Manga Plus platform.
In this reincarnation drama story, the story revolves around a doctor and his former patient being reincarnated as the twin children of their favorite idol singer and their quest to make it in the entertainment business.
The news of this anime adaptation only hit the internet within the last few hours (at the time of writing), but I’m already hearing an excited buzz surrounding the potential of this series from my personal social circles. While dramatic idol stories are sometimes hard for me to stomach, Oshi no Ko sounds like it could be an interesting take on the genre. With Doga Kobo handling the animation, it’s certain to be pretty at the very least which is of some comfort already.
