I warned you earlier this week that these premiere date articles were going to come at a furious pace. In a brand new promotional video posted on Thursday, May 27th, we learned the premiere date for the upcoming Noitamina series titled Idaten Deities in the Peaceful Generation (Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi).
The series is from studio MAPPA, who you might remember being in the news recently for negative reasons.
As was revealed in the video, the seinen action-comedy will premiere on July 22nd as part of the Noitamina animation block. The series started as a manga written by Amahara and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya, the latter of which you might also remember as the creator of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (which is getting a second season this summer) and Peach Boy Riverside (which is also getting an anime adaptation this summer).
The story in Idaten starts many years ago with a group of battle gods (Idaten) defeating an army of demons and sealing them away. 800 years later, the demons have been unleashed, but the current generation of gods have lived peaceful lives for so long that they have forgotten how to defeat demons. Now, these gods are being forced to bring whatever skills they have to the battlefield in order to reseal the demons before they can do real damage!
As part of the announcement, the staff behind Idaten revealed some key crew and cast members. As mentioned, studio MAPPA will produce the animation with Seimei Kidokoro serving as the director. They’ll be working off scripts written by Hiroshi Seko and character designs by Nao Ootsu.
Meanwhile, the main cast members will be filled out as follows (character names first):
Hayato: Romi Park
Isli: Megumi Ogata
Paula: Yui Horie
Rin: Akemi Okamura
Three anime adaptations within one season for one creator has got to be a record of some kind. I can’t honestly remember the last time a creator had that many adaptations of their work airing at once. The closest example I can think of is the equally prolific Kazuma Kamachi (writer for the RailDex universe), but I’m not sure even they had three anime adaptations airing at the same time.
