HIGHSPEED Étoile, also presented as Highspeed Etoile, is a 3DCG anime series about a group of girls, and a couple guys, taking part in the high-speed sport of racing. What sets this futuristic take on racing apart is that the cars can safely cruise above 500 km/h (310.686 mph).
HIGHSPEED Étoile is a completely original series that will feature collaborations with the Japanese Super Formula Championship, and they’ll be in good company if the list of well-known companies shown in the trailer is any indication.
This series has a release window of 2024, so hopefully their trailer can tide potential fans over until then.
It isn’t clear who is running the show for now, but there is a promotional home page, and an official Twitter page, already set up to keep fans and potential viewers up to date on series announcements, while also offering bonuses, such as the key visuals below.
Super Waifu Kart
HIGHSPEED Étoile takes place in the future, where newly discovered technology has enabled cars to go faster than normal, above 500 km/h (310.686 mph), without increasing the overall risk to drivers. As such, NEX Race is founded, the next generation of racing.
One of the central characters is Rin Rindoh, who is voiced by Fuka Izumi. She is a pink-haired girl who once dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer. This is likely where the word “Étoile” enters into the title, as an “Étoile” is the principal dancer in a ballet company. An injury forced her to abandon her dreams, and after moving in with her grandmother, she became a NEET, or someone who is “Not in Education, Employment, or Training.” Through currently unexplained means, she is pulled into NEX Race as a driver.
The rest of the cast seems just as fun and interesting, including Rin’s apparent friends, Kanata Asakawa and Eien Komachi.
HIGHSPEED Étoile’s Origins
Background details are sparse. All that is revealed thus far is that the characters were designed by Takuya Fujima. Whether or not this series is just a tie-in for Japanese Super Formula Championship, in a similar manner that Uma Musume is kind of a tie-in for horse racing, is unclear. We just have to wait and see. The girls are cute though, so even if it is just a tie-in, we can still enjoy it.
