Hatsune Miku to Perform at Coachella 2020

Coachella 2020 Lineup includes Hatsune Miku

Famed Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku will be performing at the American music festival Coachella, held in California, later this year. I repeat, Hatsune Miku is going to perform at Coachella! On January 3rd, the official Coachella website revealed the lineup for both weekends of this year’s festival and, along with mainstream acts such as Rage Against The Machine, the famous Vocaloid will make her festival debut on April 10th and 17th. The official website notes that passes for the first weekend are already sold out but passes for the second weekend will go on sale starting January 6th, at 12 pm Pacific.

The festival first launched in 1999 before becoming an annual, single-day event in 2001. The festival grew into its current format in 2013, which sees it held on two consecutive three day weekends in April. The purpose of the festival is to mix established and up-and-coming musical acts.

This isn’t the first time that Hatsune Miku has performed overseas. Her first overseas concert was held in Singapore on November 21st, 2009, at Anime Festival Asia. Her first performance in the United States came back in 2011 when she performed for excited anime fans at Anime Expo in Los Angeles. This was followed by a Vocaloid opera titled The End, which was performed in Paris in late 2013. Perhaps the biggest feather in the virtual idol’s hat came in October 2014, when she made her American network debut by performing Sharing the World on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Is it too early to predict that the new decade is going to be filled with virtual idols? Because it’s feeling like the new decade is going to be filled with virtual idols… which isn’t a bad thing in the least!

Congratulations to Hatsune Miku and her team for taking another big step forward for Vocaloid kind!
