No matter how big or small a franchise is, odds are that it’s been negatively impacted by the sudden and devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in April, a slew of prolific anime projects with upcoming premieres were suddenly delayed. Movies like Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel III. spring song, Violet Evergarden: The Movie, and even Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 were all delayed due to the spread of the virus. Currently, a number of anime projects are slowly resuming production and getting back on track for their premieres. Unfortunately, not every anime project currently in development is clear of COVID-19 related roadblocks. The Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway film that we previously reported was set to open on July 23rd, for example, has just announced that its premiere is being delayed indefinitely.
Sunrise, the parent company of the Gundam franchise and producers of the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway film, announced that the film project was being delayed due to the effects that the new coronavirus disease has had on production. When a new opening date is decided, the official website and social media accounts for the film will announce it.
The main cast of Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway includes:
- Kensho Ono as Hathaway Noa
- Rena Ueda as Gigi Andalucia
- Junichi Suwabe as Kenneth Sleg
Shukou Murase, known for working on anime like Ergo Proxy, Gangsta., Witch Hunter Robin, and Genocidal Organ, is directing Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway. Yasayuki Mutou, previously a writer on Basilisk, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, and Deadman Wonderland, will be writing the scripts. Pablo Uchida, Naoyuki Onda, and Shigeki Kuhara are adapting the original character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto for animation. Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, Seiichi Nakatani, and Nobuhiko Genba are adapting Moriki’s mechanical designs for animation. Finally, prolific composer Hiroyuki Sawano will be composing music for the film. He is known for his work on Attack on Titan as well as other Mobile Suit Gundam projects like Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative and Mobile Suit Gundam UC.
