The 2003 Satoshi Kon movie Tokyo Godfathers is getting a new lease on life this year thanks to GKIDS!
Last year, the company revealed that they had rescued the license to the movie after so many years of not being available legally in English and would give it a theatrical re-release in 2020. Now, with the movie set to screen in about a month in the United States, GKIDS has revealed who will provide the voices in the dubbed version set to hit theaters on March 11th (subtitled version hits theaters on March 9th).
Gin: Jon Avner
Miyuki: Victoria Grace
Hana: Shakina Nayfack
Mother: Kate Bornstein
Miyuki’s Father: Crispin Freeman
Old Man: David Manis
Oota: Jamieson Price
Yasuo: Kirk Thornton
Loosely based on the novel The Three Godfathers by Peter Kyne, the 2003 movie was directed by Kon, but the script was co-written by himself and Keiko Nobumoto. The movie has received generally favorable praise from fans and critics alike since its initial release. A search on social media will find many fans expressing their excitement at getting another chance to see this movie on the big screen when the new screenings were announced last year.
GKIDS describes the movie on their official website as follows:
In modern-day Tokyo, three homeless people’s lives are changed forever when they discover a baby girl at a garbage dump on Christmas Eve. As the New Year fast approaches, these three forgotten members of society band together to solve the mystery of the abandoned child and the fate of her parents. Along the way, encounters with seemingly unrelated events and people force them to confront their own haunted pasts, as they learn to face their future, together.
