Athletic girls have always been popular in anime. From jet skiing in Kandagawa Jet Girls to weightlifting in How Many Kilograms are the Dumbells You Lift?, to horse racing with anthropomorphic horse girls in Uma Musume, there’s no shortage of animes featuring aspiring athletes. One such anime was Girls und Panzer, an anime that featured girls fighting in tanks for sport. While both the original anime and manga were short-lived, they managed to produce a large number of manga spinoffs and theatrical films.
But for those die-hard fans of the series who’ve read every manga and watched every film, and are anxiously awaiting new content, you won’t have to wait very long as the series is getting its own album titled “Das Girls und Panzer Symphonie” on March 11th. The album was recorded by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and will feature the anime’s soundtrack re-constructed by the original series composer Shiro Hamaguchi. Publisher Lantis (now absorbed by Bandai under their Bandai Namco Arts label), has released a preview of the album.
The album will be produced in a UHQCD or Ultimate High-Quality CD format for the best listening experience possible. Those that purchase the album will get a bonus in the form of an advance entry ticket for the series’ live orchestra performance scheduled for September 19th. The soundtrack will be performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic GuP Orchestra at Omiya Sonic City’s Big Hall in Saitama Prefecture. The original artists for the anime’s opening theme ChouCho and Sayaka Sasaki have been confirmed as attending the performance.
Both the Girls und Panzer album and live orchestral performance look like a great opportunity for any fan to get their fix as they await parts 3 through 7 of the Girls und Panzer: The Final Chapter series. With Part 1 of the Final Chapter series released in 2017, and Part 2 being released in June of last year, here’s hoping fans won’t have to wait too long for news on Part 3.
