Ghibli Museum Seeking Donations From Overseas Fans

Here’s your chance to give back to Studio Ghibli, the studio that has entertained multiple generations of anime fans from the 1980s all the way to today.

The Best Films By Studio Ghibli

The pandemic has hit every industry around the world pretty hard. Public facilities such as museums are certainly no exception to that, with the Studio Ghibli museum in Tokyo having to resort to public donations from their fans in Japan in order to stay afloat. Now the museum is hoping that overseas fans will show them the same level of generosity as their domestic fans.

According to their donation page, the Ghibli Museum has been through some pretty rough times over the last two years because of the constant state of emergencies forcing them to close their doors. Even when they are allowed to be open, the museum must limit how many visitors are allowed inside at any point, which has really cut into their bottom line.

And now, to make matters worse, the 20-year-old facility needs maintenance and repairs. While the donation page clearly states that the museum has already raised more than triple what they were initially seeking, the museum still requires more funds to remain operational, which is where you might come to the rescue.

If you are a resident of certain countries around the world (USA, Canada, Australia, and Singapore), you can donate directly to the museum in order to keep them operational. They are asking for a minimum of 5,000 yen (a little under $50 USD) per donation and for your trouble, you will receive a special card that features a piece of art created by Hayao Miyazaki himself. Sadly, not every country can donate as there are legal complications, which means most of Europe (including the UK) and China are not allowed to donate.

If you’ve ever wanted to help support a studio that has done nothing but create whimsical films that entertain the young and old alike, this is your golden opportunity to do so. Don’t let a magical place like this close its doors forever before we’ve all visited.
