A spinoff of the long-running and beloved idol series “Love Live! Sunshine!!” is getting a well-deserved anime adaptation titled Genjitsu no Yohane: SUNSHINE in the MIRROR. What had started as an April Fools’ Day joke in 2022 is now becoming a reality. Based on the spinoff manga series Genjitsu no Yohane: Unpolarized Reflexion, the story stars a new version of Yoshiko Tsushima named Yohane.
This fantasy version of an idol series is set to premiere in July 2023. Until then, we can enjoy this trailer.

A Story That Nobody Knows About a Girl Everyone Knows
Genjitsu no Yohane: SUNSHINE in the MIRROR features the cute and heartwarming story of Yohane, a fantasy world version of the Aqours idol Yoshiko Tsushima. For those new to the series, the original Yoshiko insisted that people call her “Yohane” and that she was a fallen angel who angered God. Maybe her fantasy world counterpart also has chunibyo (second-year syndrome).
This Yohane works at a fortune teller’s shop in the seaside town of Numazu. Since she was a child, Yohane had isolated herself from everyone and felt out of place, even at home. She decides to go on a journey to find her place in the world, accompanied by a wolf companion, a fairy, and a group of friends that look awfully familiar. They could be in an idol group or something. In a world full of magic and gifted with it herself, Yohane is sure to have some fun.

ASCII Media Works began publishing the original manga series, Genjitsu no Yohane: Unpolarized Reflexion, on February 28th, 2022, written by Yatate Hajime and illustrated by Matsuda Kouta.
