When you think of gorgeously animated anime series, it’s hard to put together a list like that without mentioning the jaw-dropping visuals of Mob Psycho 100. The anime adaptation of ONE’s iconic manga series came out in 2016 and blew anime fans away with sharp fight scenes and fluid, expressive animation. Things escalated even further in season 2, with the 2019 follow-up series providing some of the most high-quality, unforgettable moments of animation that the anime industry has ever seen. It took a huge team of incredibly talented animators to bring that series to life, but now one of the most vital members of that team is set to release an original anime this summer by the name of Deca-Dence, and Funimation has announced their plans to stream it globally.
Last year, Kadokawa announced the existence of Deca-Dence, an original anime being helmed by Mob Psycho 100 and Death Parade director Yuzuru Tachikawa. Now, with the summer premiere of the series soon upon us, English localization and streaming powerhouse Funimation has announced their plans to make the promising new show available outside of Japan. Funimation briefly describes the series as follows:
“Set in a world where all of humanity lives on a giant moving fortress, this series follows the fight against a legion of treacherous kaiju!”
Tachikawa is joined by another Mob Psycho 100 alum on the production of Deca-Dence. Hiroshi Seko, who worked alongside Tachikawa on both seasons of Mob Psycho 100, is set to write the script for their original sci-fi action anime. The series is being animated at anime studio NUT, previously responsible for the anime series Saga of Tanya the Evil. Character concepts for the anime are credited to pomodrosa, the artist responsible for the designs of currently airing rock-music action-adventure Listeners. Death Parade artist Shinichi Kurita, meanwhile, is adapting the original concepts for animation. Finally, Masahiro Tokuda of Last Hope fame is composing music for the series.
