A humble swordsman runs a humble dojo in the countryside. His dreams of glory are long behind him. A former student who has ascended the ranks of knighthood requests that he become her teacher again. Other cute students soon follow and idolize him as a master. We’ll see if he can meet their expectations when From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now and They Won’t Leave Me Alone (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei Shita Deshitachi ga Ore o Hottekurenai Ken) premieres sometime in April 2025.
Shigeru Sagazaki and Tetsuhiro Nabeshima released the original From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman light novel on April 7th, 2021. Square Enix has since published eight volumes in the SQEX Novel imprint.
The humble swordsman and two of his pretty students are as follows:
- Beryl Gardinant — Hiroaki Hirata (Rikiya Yotsubashi “Re-Destro” from My Hero Academia). A humble sword teacher who trained master swordswomen.
- Allucia Citrus — Nao Toyama (Takao and Atago from Kantai Collection). The leader of the Knights of the Liberion Order. She is Beryl’s former student and harbors feelings for him.
- Surena Lysandra — Hitomi Ueda (Michiko Tendou in Chainsaw Man). A top-ranked adventurer whom Beryl has cared for since a young age.

An Unexpected Promotion inside From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman
Beryl Gardinant is a middle-aged sword instructor from the countryside. He once dreamed of becoming a legendary adventurer, but those days have passed long ago. Beryl now trains warriors who themselves go on to write their own legends. He’s content with his humble dojo in the middle of nowhere. A girlfriend would be pleasant, and his father wants a grandkid or two, but who would want to marry a low-ranked instructor?
Allucia Citrus — the head of the Liberion Order — is one such apprentice. She attributes her success to his teaching and requests that he become the Liberion Order’s instructor. He doesn’t feel up to the task. After all, he’s just a country sword instructor. However, a royal decree forces his hand to go with Allucia to the kingdom’s capital, Valtrane. Beryl’s father orders him to stay there until he finds a wife. One or more of his former students would love to fulfill the role as he proves his mettle as an instructor.
