Four character promotional videos released all at once? It’s a Christmas miracle!
On Thursday, December 24th, the official Kyoto Animation YouTube channel released four different character videos to promote the upcoming second season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S. The S stands for “Super Supreme Second life Starts.” The videos confirm what we already knew in that the new season will premiere in 2021.
Each video re-introduces the characters in question by counting down their top three moments from season one and lasts for roughly 90 seconds.

Originally a manga series created by Coolkyousinnjya which began serializing in 2013 in Monthly Action magazine, the main series has been compiled into nine volumes thus far and multiple spinoff manga featuring different main characters have also been released. The first anime season aired from January 2017 to April and was wildly popular with fans and critics. It was streamed on both Crunchyroll and Funimation.
The second season was originally announced back in February 2019, but the status of the project became questionable after the death of the original director, Yasuhiro Takemoto, in the Kyoto Animation arson attack that occurred in July 2019. Unfortunately, we still do not know who the new director for this season will be, but whoever they are, they are going to have some mighty big shoes to fill. We can at least take solace in the fact that the original voice cast will be returning to reprise their roles.
This is easily one of my most anticipated sequels of 2021. The first season easily ranks up there as top tier Kyoto Animation comedy, while also being touching and filled with heart. You just can’t get much better than this series in terms of fantastic comedy. Stay tuned to the J-List blog as more details about this new season are released.
