Evangelion Theme Song Loses Anime Karaoke Crown

Brace yourself, everyone. No seriously, this is me giving you ample bracing time. Are you braced? Alright, here goes… the mighty have fallen in Japan as the karaoke company Joysound have released their most popular songs of 2021 (so far) and for once, Cruel Angel’s Thesis (the opening theme song to Neon Genesis Evangelion) isn’t the number one song!

Karaoke

This is a huge shock upset as the iconic opening theme song has been the number one song for several years now. Plus, with the final rebuild movie finally seeing its release earlier this year, you’d think that the song would be fresh in everyone’s minds once again. And if they had released the movie in literally any other year, I’m willing to bet that that would still be the case but this isn’t any other year, it’s the year of Demon Slayer.

Not surprisingly, the song that managed to take the crown away from Yoko Takahashi’s hit single is the theme song to the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie as sung by LiSA titled Homura. I mean, are you really that shocked by this? Demon Slayer is everywhere right now and has been breaking box office and sales records left and right.

Now, it’s worth noting that these rankings are only for the first half of 2021. There’s still plenty of time for the championship-worthy song from Evangelion to make a big comeback once people realize that their beloved iconic song has fallen in the rankings but I think it’s going to take a massive surge of momentum in order to restore the song to its rightful place of prominence.

Which song do you think deserves to take number one in the anime karaoke song category? Are you in the Demon Slayer camp, the Evangelion camp, or another one altogether? Sound off in the comments or on social media and let us know what anisongs you choose to belt out when you sing karaoke.
