Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has been having a great year. Between the fervor for season one of the anime, the unprecedented success of the Mugen Train movie, and the announcement of the anime’s second season, the only place Demon Slayer has to go is up. Now fans are getting a glimpse of what’s in store for Tanjiro and his friends in season two, with the official trailer.

While some may call the one-minute-and-thirty-eight-second video more of a teaser trailer than anything else, it stands to reason that the trailer gives you everything you need to know about what’ll be happening next season, without overplaying its hand. While manga readers will be familiar with the setup for this next story arc, anime-only fans may be a little confused. Here, we’ll break down the trailer with the help of the five W’s:
- Who? Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu are our main players once more, along with another Hashira, who’s both narrating and observing. This Hashira is actually Tengen Uzui or the Sound Hashira. If he doesn’t look familiar, it may be because he’s mostly in the background in season 1, with only a few throwaway lines.
- What? Tanjro and crew are here to kill demons, though that may end up being considerably more complicated than they expect.
- When? Sometime after the events of Mugen Train. There’s no specific time frame given, but we’ll just assume everyone’s back to full strength, at least physically.
- Where? The red-light district. Obviously, a good setup for demons, since there are enough people frequenting the area that it’d be a snap to find a victim and not have anyone notice that they went missing for some time.
- Why? The true “Why?” on why this mission is happening would be a huge spoiler for anime-only fans, so we’ll just say the mission isn’t technically official Demon Corps business, and leave it at that.
Other than those key points, it looks like this season will also bring us more of what we’ve come to expect and love about the Demon Slayer series. Striking visuals, a moving soundtrack, intense fight scenes, and Tanjiro always being focused on the mission at hand. The new season is slated for release this October, with news of an English dub sure to follow soon. Who else is looking forward to a new season of Demon Slayer?
