Studying English as a second language is a difficult and sometimes laborious task. The textbooks that people have to use to learn the language often don’t make it any easier, with boring and rote examples of word usage and conjugation. This is why I’m really excited to tell you about a brand new English textbook aimed at junior high school students! Mostly because it uses characters and examples from the series, Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks (also lovingly referred to by fans as Okaa-san Online).
If you missed Okaa-san Online when it was originally released as a light novel written by Dachima Inaka and illustrated by Pochi Iida and then missed it again when it was adapted into an anime by studio J.C. Staff in 2019, here’s the basic idea; the main character in this series is a teenage boy named Masato who is generally embarrassed by his overly doting mother, Mamako. One day he is transported into a fantasy video game and he thinks his dreams of being an overpowered hero are about to come true… until he realizes that his mother has been transported into the game with him and in actuality, she’s the overpowered one!
With this textbook — appropriately titled “Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? Junior High English Review Book” — fans of the series will be able to brush up on their English skills with example sentences that include “Can Porta attack the enemy?” or the even trickier “You may not look at me in the nude.”
Need even more incentive to hit the books and use this study guide properly? If you buy the book, you’ll have access to audio recordings of Mamako’s voice actress Ai Kayano reading out the example sentences.
The book is available now from Amazon.co.jp for a mere ¥1,650 (a little over $15 USD).
