Cultured otaku in need of a respite from isekai series adapted from novels found on Shosetsuka ni Naro are in luck. Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijo (The Witch’s Bumpy Parent and Child Situation) features a fun and cute story about a witch raising her magical daughter. The real magic lies in how much more mature the daughter is than her mother.
Studio A-Real has provided a trailer for the series. Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijo is set to premiere in October 2023.
A-Real has set up a promotional home page for Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijo and an official Twitter page. Behind the scenes information, and bonuses such as key visuals, can be found there.
A Witch’s Daughter
Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijo follows the story of Alyssa and her adopted daughter Viola. Alyssa (voiced by Aoi Koga) found Viola (voiced by Nana Mizuki) as an infant, abandoned in the woods. This child had the potential for great magic, nevertheless it was Alyssa’s kindness that compelled her to take the child in as her own. Sixteen years have passed since their fateful meeting, and Viola has come into her own, both as a woman and a witch.
Viola has become a powerful witch with a mature figure at sixteen years of age. Contrarily, Alyssa is 223 years old, and she looks younger than her daughter. This is a running gag that Viola seems to be unaware of.
People tend to mistake Viola as the master and Alyssa as the apprentice. Despite their contrasting appearances, they hold a deep love and affection for one another. Alyssa dotes on her daughter, as seen when she caves in and lets Viola buy something from a shop despite saying “no.” Viola is likewise protective of her mother, such as the time she assumed men were planning to hit on Alyssa, and she told them off. She also planned their painful demise for trying to take her mother. In reality, they had eyes for Viola.
The story is evidently a slice of life about a doting mother and her protective daughter. These two cute ladies just happen to be incredibly powerful witches.
