Defy Fate in Once Upon a Witch’s Death

In one year, a young witch full of potential will die. Not even her master can reverse her grim fate. It’s a hefty curse to discover on a birthday. However, there’s a chance she can reverse her fortunes and live an almost endless life. We’ll see if she can create a miracle when Once Upon a Witch’s Death (Aru Majo ga Shinu Made) premieres on April 1st, 2025.

Saka and Chorefuji released the original Once Upon a Witch’s Death light novel on December 17th, 2021. ASCII Media Works has since published two volumes in the Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint.

Three of the great witches are as follows:

Meg Raspberry — Yoshino Aoyama (Hitori Goto from Bocchi the Rock!). A young witch who is destined to die in one year.
Faust — Yoshiko Sakakibara (Prime Minister Yoko Kayabuki from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG). Meg’s teacher and one of the great Seven Sages.
Inori — Shizuka Ito (Kai Harn in Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-). One of the Seven Sages. She specializes in theory and research.

Hope Persists Once Upon a Witch’s Death

Meg Raspberry is the bright and eager student of Faust, one of the great Seven Sages. The clock struck on her seventeenth birthday, ushering in some terrible news: she’s going to die in one year. Meg was born with an ancient magical illness, and she will age ten years within three days and a century within a month. However, Faust has offered her a small measure of hope.

Meg can stop her internal clock and become immortal if she gathers a thousand “Tears of Joy” by performing good deeds. She must make people so happy that they shed tears. Her first (accidental) attempt brought some measure of closure to a father and daughter after losing someone close to them. Rather than “Tears of Joy,” she collected “Pure Tears” that may not be able to create a Seed of Life. She still needs to collect 1000 tears to save her life.
