Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? is an original anime series. The series was created by apogeego, produced by Kadokawa Corporation, and animated by EMT Squared. Kadokawa first announced this anime series to commemorate Railway Day in 2022, the 150th anniversary of Japan’s first railway.
Our train-riding girls are as follows:
- Shizuru Chikura — Chika Anzai (Misaki Aoba from The Idolmaster Million Live!). A young girl who takes a train to find her friends after an unknown phenomenon has changed the world around her.
- Nadeshiko Hoshi — Azumi Waki (Steyr AUG from Girls’ Frontline). A kind and gentle girl who acts as Shizuru’s adviser. She opposes violence and steps between the girls when things become tense.
- Reimi Kuga — Erisa Kuon (Raika from Oniichan wa Oshimai!). A cute gyaru girl with a bright and straightforward personality. She’s not exactly an honor student, but Reimi has insightful intuition.
- Akira Shinonome — Hina Kino (Kuuderika from Overlord). A shy girl who prefers to read books. Her knowledge may prove a boon to the girls as they navigate a difficult and dangerous world.

Plot details concerning Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? continue to elude us. An unknown event has occurred in a countryside town. The inhabitants have begun to act differently, and strange tendril-like entities have started chasing the people. Shizuru decides to locate her missing friends and reunite with them as the world changes for the worse. She’s a natural-born leader with impressive physical abilities, including jiu-jitsu.
Shizuru and her friends, the kind Nadeshiko who acts as Shizuru’s adviser and archer, the intuitive gyaru Reimi, and the shy bookworm Akira, manage to locate an old train. Despite not having seen active use for a long time, it’s surprisingly operational. Fortunately, the girls also know how to operate the antique machine. This faithful locomotive becomes a new home for these four girls as they ride the rails away from their distorted town.
