Crunchyroll has announced a swath of new anime series premiering soon, a perfect addition to the great movies that will be airing around the same time that also provides new excuses to stay inside where it’s warm. All of these titles will begin streaming sometime this January, so get ready to experience some fun adventures.
The list of new arrivals to Crunchyroll’s service, in alphabetical order, includes:
Ayakashi Triangle
Set to premier on January 9th and developed by studio Connect, Ayakashi Triangle, sometimes abbreviated to AyaTri, is a romance series adapted from Kentaro Yabuki’s popular manga.
Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense Season 2
Crunchyroll will be bringing this to a screen near you on January 11th, with studio Silver Link creating the series. Based on the light novel series written by Yuumikan and illustrated by Koin, the series follows an online gamer who maxes out her defensive stats to avoid losing health.
Buddy Daddies
A completely original series from P.A. Works that Crunchyroll will start streaming on January 6th. The series will follow two hitmen who must take care of a child.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4
Based on the manga series written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, the second season of Bungo Stray Dogs will begin streaming to Crunchyroll on January 4th, and with studio Bones at the helm, it’s certain to look pristine.
By the Grace of the Gods Season 2
Known in Japan as The Man Picked Up By the Gods, and adapted from the light novel series written by Roy and illustrated by Ririnra, the second season will begin airing on January 8th, with Maho Film creating the series.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
Adapted from the light novel series written by Ren Eguchi and produced by studio MAPPA, this anime will begin streaming on January 10th.
Chillin’ in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army
Known in Japan as The Slow Second Life of the Retired Dark Soldier in His 30s and adapted from the light novel series written by Rokujūyon Okazawa and illustrated by Sage Joh, the anime series, developed by studio Encourage Films, will begin streaming to Crunchyroll on January 7th.
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack
Based on the web manga series written and illustrated by Nanashi, a.k.a. 774, the second season is animated by studio OLM, and will begin streaming on January 7th.
Handyman Saitō in Another World
Another fine adaptation, this one based on the manga series by Kazutomo Ichitomo. Studio C2C has been working to bring this to the screen, coming January 8th.
In/Spectre Season 2
Studio Brain’s Base brings this series to life, airing January 8th. In/Spectre is based on the light novel of the same name written by Kyo Shirodaira, with illustrations by Hiro Kyohara, and as of volume 2, by Chasiba Katase.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea
This anime series by studio Polygon, streaming to the West via Crunchyroll, will release on January 11th.
Lee’s Detective Agency
A spinoff series of Arknights, developed by Gravity Well Studio, that began streaming on December 23rd.
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari
Based on the manga series written and illustrated by Onigunsou, the anime adaptation was created by Bandai Namco Pictures. Streaming begins on January 9th.
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a
A very interesting series by studio A-1 Pictures that we’ve discussed before. Crunchyroll will release this highly anticipated series sometime in January.
Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity Will Save the World
Also called Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World and known in Japan as Adventurers Who Lost Faith in People Will Apparently Save the World, this adaptation is based on the light novel written by Shinta Fuji and illustrated by Susumu Kuroi. Studio Geek Toys has been working on it, and Crunchyroll will begin streaming the series on January 3rd.
Onimai: I’m Now Your Sister!
Known in Japan as Big Brother Is Done For!, this is an adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Nekotofu. Studio Bind is handling the animation. Streaming begins on January 5th.
Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire
Known in Japan as The Hero King, Reincarnated to Master Martial Arts — Thus Becoming the World’s Strongest Female Knight-in-Training, and adapted from the light novel series written by Hayaken and illustrated by Nagu. Studio Comet animated the series, and it begins streaming on January 9th.
Revenger
Ajia-do Animation Works produced this series, and Crunchyroll will begin streaming on January 5th.
Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement
Based on the light novel series written by FUNA, studio Felix Film is bringing the series to life, and Crunchyroll will begin streaming it on January 7th.
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen -Chaos in Urbanrama-
Known in Japan as Sorcerer Orphen, and based on the light novel series written by Yoshinobu Akita, Studio DEEN has been working on the anime series thus far, and season three will begin airing on January 18th.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale
An adaptation of the light novel series written by Miri Mikawa and illustrated by aki, studio J.C.Staff has been working to bring this series to life, so Crunchyroll can stream it in the West starting January 6th.
The Fire Hunter
Bearing the title The Firecatcher Lord in Japan, and adapted from the novel series written by Rieko Hinata and illustrated by Akihiro Yamada, studio Signal.MD produces the series, and Crunchyroll will begin streaming it on January 14th.
The Fruit of Evolution 2: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made
Released in Japan under the title The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made, it first appeared as a light novel series written by Miku and illustrated by U35. Studio Hotline is working on the anime adaptation, and Crunchyroll will be streaming it in the West, starting on January 13th.
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World
Studio Cloud Hearts produces this adaptation of a light novel series originally written by Nana Mikoshiba and illustrated by Riko Korie. Crunchyroll will being streaming the series on January 5th.
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
Studio Zero-G and Liber are working together to adapt the manga series written and illustrated by Miyuki Tonogaya, and it is set to begin streaming on January 4th.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Based on the video game franchise by Nihon Falcom, and produced by studio Tatsunoko Production, fans of the game and combat anime in general can expect to see it starting January 6th.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy II
Studio Silver Link is working on this second season adaptation of Shu and Yoshinori Shizuma’s light novel series. Yūichirō Umehara will be replacing Tatsuhisa Suzuki in the role of Anos Voldigoad. January 7th is when it begins streaming.
The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World
Titled A Record of the Strongest Onmyōji’s Reincarnation to Another World: These Monsters Are Too Weak Compared to My Youkai in Japan, and adapted from the light novel series written by Kiichi Kosuzu, with the first volume illustrated by Shiso, and the second volume illustrated by Kihiro Yuzuki. Studio Blanc is handling the adaptation, and Crunchyroll will begin streaming the series on January 7th.
The Tale of Outcasts

Known in Japan as The Tale of the Outcasts, and based on the manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Hoshino, studio Ashi Productions is working to adapt the series to anime. Streaming will begin on January 8th.
The Vampire Dies in No Time Season 2
Studio MADHOUSE is working on this adaptation of Itaru Bonnoki’s popular manga series. Crunchyroll will begin streaming this anime on January 9th.
Tomo-chan Is a Girl!
This anime series, which is currently being adapted by studio Lay-duce, is based on the 4koma manga series written and illustrated by Fumita Yanagida. The series will begin streaming on Crunchyroll’s service on January 4th.
Trigun Stampede
A remake of the seminal anime series that ran from April 1st, 1998 through September 30th, 1998 in a total of 26 episodes, studio Orange took up the task of adapting Yasuhiro Nightow’s epic manga series. Fans of the original can enjoy this remake starting on January 7th.
Vinland Saga Season 2
Studio MAPPA is taking over for Studio Wit for season 2, and will continue to adapt Makoto Yukimura historical manga series about epic vikings. Fans can continue to enjoy the saga play out on Crunchyroll’s streaming platform starting January 9th.
