I’ve mentioned in previous articles how my experience with anime movies is… let’s call it lacking. It’s not that I dislike anime movies (far from it), I just have issues getting out to theaters to see them when they are screened. Luckily for myself (and anyone who is in the same boat as I am), Crunchyroll has heard our pleas!
Earlier this year at a convention industry panel, Crunchyroll revealed plans to add a bunch of anime movies to their service every week through October. It started last month with the addition of nine movies (which ranged from all-time classics such as Akira to modern blockbusters such as your name. and Wolf Children). On Tuesday, August 30th, Crunchyroll revealed that in September they will double that number with the addition of EIGHTEEN movies. The schedule, as it stands now, has the following movies being added throughout September:
September 1
Afro Samurai: Resurrection
BanG Dream! Poppin’ Dream!
September 8
ODDTAXI in the Woods
PSYCHO-PASS Sinners of the System: Case.1 Crime and Punishment
PSYCHO-PASS Sinners of the System: Case.2 First Guardian
PSYCHO-PASS Sinners of the System: Case.3 Beyond the Pale of Vengeance
September 15
The Girl Who Lept Through Time
Sword of the Stranger
Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic
September 21
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0
September 22
High Speed! -Free! Starting Days-
Free! -Timeless Medley- The Bond
Free! -Timeless Medly- The Promise
Free! -Road to the World- the Dream
September 29
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion I – Initiation
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion II – Transgression
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III – Glorification
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection
As always, dates are subject to change, not every movie listed will be available in all regions, and not every movie will have an English dub track.
This is really exciting news for anime fans. While the August slate of movies was exciting enough, the new slate of movies is thrilling for fans of all genres. If you’re a fan of the hit shonen series Jujutsu Kaisen, you can now watch the movie to your heart’s content. If you never had time to see the Black Butler movie, I suggest you fix that. If you’re interested in getting a heavy dose of manservice, four Free! movies should fix that craving pretty well.
I’m already excited to see what movies Crunchyroll will add in October!
