Bucchigiri?! is an original anime series, rather than just another adaptation. Studio MAPPA gathered some talented people to work on this original series. MAPPA is known for their work on Kakegurui, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and many more. The studio has released a trailer in advance of the scheduled January 2024 release date.
MAPPA has also set up a promotional home page as well as an official Twitter page for Bucchigiri?!. Fans of their work expecting another stellar series to enjoy should keep an eye on those sites. They have already released some behind the scenes information and the key visual.
Old Friends and New Enemies
Details concerning the plot of Bucchigiri?! are scarce, but we know some things. The series apparently combines the fun and action of delinquents battling it out for supremacy, with some fantastical aspects to the overall narrative.
The main character Araji Tomobishi is reunited with his old friend Mataka Asamine. Afterwards, this fateful reunion drags Araji into a battle with very strange and strong individuals. However, both friends seem to be strong themselves.
There seem to be some supernatural elements at play. For instance, there is a room of clones with glowing eyes. Not to bury the lede, but a supernatural tornado whips into existence, then it proceeds to flex its muscles. We’re told that this is the shadow of a demon.
Bucchigiri?! Origins
As previously stated, Bucchigiri?! is an original anime series from studio MAPPA. The series is inspired by the famous Middle Eastern fable One Thousand and One Nights. The series is directed by Hiroko Utsumi, with Takahiro Ogawa acting as the animation producer. Taku Kishimoto is writing the series composition and screenplay. Takahiro Kagami is the character designer and chief animation director. Lastly, Michiru Oshima is creating the music.
