Another aspiring adventurer faced cruel treatment, kicked out of his party after enduring abuse and a lack of appreciation. Rather than waste away on the streets, he begins to use his healing magic at an illegal clinic. We’ll see what becomes of his new practice when The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows (Isshun de Chiryou shiteita no ni Yakudatazu to Tsuihousareta Tensai Chiyushi, Yami Healer to shite Tanoshiku Ikiru) premieres sometime in April 2025.
Sakaku Hishikawa and Daburyu released the original The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows light novel on October 14th, 2021. SB Creative has since published seven volumes in the GA Novel imprint.
The illegal healer, his new loli elf friend, and the wraith of an upstairs neighbor are as follows:
- Zenos — Shogo Sakata (Modaka from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Girls in a Dungeon?). A skilled healer with no formal training. His party deemed him useless and kicked him out.
- Lily — Miharu Hanai (Twin Turbo from Uma Musume Pretty Derby). An elf girl Zenos saved. She follows Zenos as his first friend.
- Carmilla — Yoko Hikasa (Weiss Schnee from RWBY: Ice Queendom). A wraith who lives upstairs. She delights in chaos.
Makaria maintains a home page, a Bluesky page, and a Twitter (X) page to promote The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows. You can find additional series information and the key visuals there. Zenos walks proudly in the back alleys.
A Diamond in the Rough, The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows
Zenos is a peasant who grew up on the streets. An adventurer named Aston and his party invited Zenos to join them. However, this invitation wasn’t made out of kindness. Aston and his friends simply wanted free labor. They treated him like trash and even planned to use him as a sacrifice if it came down to that. Zenos was banished from the party and threatened into silence. After all, Aston didn’t want anyone to know that he traveled with a peasant.
Zenos comes upon a dying elf girl as he sorts out his thoughts. He heals her and earns her gratitude. An injured lizardman runs into the tavern while the elf girl Lily is enjoying her meal. Zenos heals his injury and he receives payment for the first time in his life. Lily’s gratitude and the payment give Zenos the idea to open a clinic as a “shadow healer.” He can’t afford a healer’s license or business registration, so he’ll have to make do with running a black-market clinic. The best place for a shadow healer could only be an abandoned building in a ghost town on the edge of civilization. He may not have formal training but his incredibly high-level healing skills are sure to make him popular.
