The soccer players full of ego have returned! Blue Lock Episode Nagi is the movie sequel to the beloved soccer-themed anime series. Rather than the ace player Yoichi Isagi, fans will learn more about the up-and-comers Reo Mikage and Seishiro Nagi. We’ll see how they take to the field when the movie premieres in the West on June 28th, 2024. Let’s enjoy the new trailer until then.
Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura released the original Blue Lock manga on August 1st, 2018. Kodansha has since published 28 volumes in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The sequel series Blue Lock Episode Nagi began its run on June 9th, 2022, with the artist Kota Sannomiya replacing Yusuke Nomura. Bessatsu Shonen Magazine has since published four volumes.
Our leading players are as follows:
- Yoichi Isagi — Kazuki Ura (Barbold from Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear). He is a soccer player with such potential that he received a personal invitation from Jinpachi Ego to join the Blue Lock Project.
- Seishiro Nagi — Nobunaga Shimazaki (Mahito from Jujutsu Kaisen). Though he has the skills of a pro soccer player, his slacker attitude keeps him from those leagues. Meeting Reo and going to Blue Lock changes things for him.
- Reo Mikage — Yuma Uchida (Shinomori Aoshi in Rurouni Kenshin). Despite being the heir of a major company, Reo’s dream is to become one of the best soccer players.
- Jinpachi Ego — Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi from Attack on Titan). Jinpachi is a calculating egotist who manipulates those around him to improve Japanese soccer/football and win the World Cup.

Blue Lock Episode Nagi Rises to the Challenge with True Ego
After Japan lost in the 2018 World Cup, the Japan Football Union hired Anri Teieri and Jinpachi Ego to turn things around. They wanted a team that could proudly — and effectively — represent Japan on the world stage. Jinpachi established the extreme Blue Lock Project. His plan to “destroy Japanese loser football” would see 300 Japanese soccer players locked in an exclusive facility where they could only train and improve themselves. Among them is Yoichi Isagi, a skilled player who lost a game because he passed the ball to a teammate rather than taking the winning shot himself.
Later, the slacker with potential Seishiro and the handsome ace Reo join Blue Lock. Seishiro’s personality changes the more he’s exposed to the talented and hard-working players of the facility. Whether their friendship survives depends on which way the ball is kicked.
