Bibury Animation Studios is well-known for producing some quality harem anime series. There was no one better to adapt The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You (Kimi no koto ga Dai Dai Dai Dai Daisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo). We’ll refer to this series as The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You for brevity. It’s a story about a guy who has gotten shot down 100 times and a god who steps in and assures him that his fortune will change for the better. We’ll see how much our unlucky protagonist’s fortunes improve when the series premieres on October 8, 2023. Until that time comes, let’s see some of the first harem members in the trailer below.
Rikito Nakamura and Yukiko Nozawa began work on this harem series on December 26, 2019. Shueisha has since published fourteen volumes in Weekly Young Jump.
The harem protagonist and a couple of his harem girls are as follows.
- Rentaro Aijo — Wataru Kato (Flirtatious guy in Kaguya-sama: Love is War). His desire for love has been impeded and helped by a God of Love. Rather than having one soulmate, he has 100.
- Hakari Hanazono — Kaede Hondo (Nanjamo/Iono in Pokémon Horizons: The Series). One of the first girls to confess to Rentaro. Hakari is a sweet, albeit lewd, girl from a wealthy family.
- Karane Inda — Miyu Tomita (Funifura in KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!). One of the first girls to confess to Rentaro. She is a tsundere, though she is not violent.
Bibury Animation Studios has set up a home page, an official Twitter page, and a TikTok page to promote The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You. Additional series information and a key visual can be found there.
Bibury Animation’s Return to Harem Life
Bibury Animation Studios is no stranger to harem series. On May 1, 2017, Motoki “Tensho” Tanaka, an animation director, founded the studio. Their first big production was Grisaia: Phantom Trigger the Animation, a series Tensho had previously worked on.
Bibury has previously worked on The Quintessential Quintuplets, a series where a guy dates a whole group of sisters. Fans of ship girls will know about Azur Lane: The Animation, a series where cultured otaku dream of a harem. Likewise, many cute girls befitting the harem life can be seen in Prima Doll.
Divine Luck in Love
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You follows the unlikely tale of Rentaro Aijo. He had suffered 100 rejections from girls throughout the years. Despite those shots, he had never become a target of ridicule or bullying. Instead, he’s still friendly with both men and women. After facing his 100th rejection, Rentaro went to a shrine to pray for luck in finding a girlfriend.
Rentaro was met by an actual god and assured that his fortunes would change. What went unsaid was that Rentaro’s “love luck” had been poured into “finding a soulmate,” which explains his streak of rejections. He could only date one true love and never enjoy casual romances. This God of Love told him that he would have 100 soulmates. This prophecy came true when two girls confessed to Rentaro simultaneously: the wealthy Hakari Hanazono and the tsundere Karane Inda.
The God of Luck explained Rentaro’s situation further after the girls’ confession: it was all a mistake. The deity had accidentally input two additional digits when planning Rentaro’s love life. While some are lucky to find a soulmate, God added two zeros, making 100 rather than one. Additionally, should Rentaro turn down any girl, their own luck would plummet, and they would die. It’s explained that it requires a great deal of chance to find a soulmate, so suffering a rejection would be quite a calamity. Now Rentaro must form a harem or risk watching innocent girls perish.
