With the Summer 2021 anime season chock full of old favorites, sleeper hits, and brand new series, it’s no surprise that some shows can fall through the cracks for viewers if they haven’t managed to juggle their watching schedules effectively. One such show is BEASTARS, Paru Itagaki’s 2016 manga hit which became one of Netflix’s anime sensations in 2019.
With a completed manga and two anime seasons currently under the series’ belt, fans were eagerly awaiting a new season of the anime, despite Netflix’s habit of canceling shows before a third season can be greenlit. Now we finally have confirmation that a third season of the anime is underway, thanks to a tweet from BEASTARS animation studio Project Orange’s:

The third season of the anime, which has been consistently following the manga so far, will most likely follow our protagonist Legoshi after the events of last season. While that wouldn’t be an issue with most animes, some fans are concerned. Given how drastically the tone and characterization of the series change after the beginning arcs, and how those changes may have made for an unsatisfying ending for the series as a whole for a lot of fans, it could end up throwing a lot of anime-only fans for a loop. However, the flip side of these concerns is that the worldbuilding of the series manages to get deeper, and we get a better look at how the world of BEASTARS manages to be more multifaceted than just the theme of “predator vs. prey”.
Whatever the fallout from the third season may be, it’s always nice to see an anime get another season on a consistent basis. Given how complicated the process of bringing an anime to life can be, every season an anime gets is practically worth its weight in gold.
