A little over a year after the launch in Asia, the bara RPG mobile game, GYEE (pronounced “guy”), has launched the English version on Apple and Android devices. As of May 9th, GYEE is available in North America, Europe, and South America. GYEE follows a setup similar to other gotcha-games such as Tokyo Afterschool Summoner’s and Fire Emblem: Heroes. The story kicks off with you and your friends sitting down to play at a board game cafe when the owner offers a very peculiar game to you.
Next thing you know, your character is sucked into an isekai of buff men and furries in a sauna… and a brand new body! Cue customizing your beefy avatar and choosing from the starter classes! You’ve got three choices: Swordsman, Arcanist, and Exorcist. One’s thing for certain, we’re not in Kansas anymore.
As you venture into the open world, you build the starting party that includes a flying pork bun, a buff airship mechanic, and then your first free summon, which is randomized. Quite a few familiar faces are up for grabs, including Mentaiko’s iconic Priapus, Lin Hu from the furry bara visual novel, Nekojishi, and Raikoh from Paradiso Guardian. The GYEE development team has also created a cast of original characters for players to fall in love with. Recruiting them to your party means forming a soulbond with them, linking them to every bit of your self…
The story follows your character’s adventure in the world of Luxium, where every attractive man you encounter is being hunted by a legion of Shadows. Gyees (characters) are not exactly human, having magical properties that make them seen as a threat to humanity. Despite the discrimination, the majority of Gyees shown are harmless people. The metaphor reflecting homosexual discrimination in the real world is transparent, but presented with a fun story. You’re immediately thrown into combat to defend two engineers after their airship crashes. To find your way back to your own world, the player must join forces to put a stop to the Shadows infesting the world.
With the Dice of Fate in your hands, players gain new powers and create soulbonds with Gyees you meet and summon. Gyees that you collect can be enhanced through battle or with items that increase their intimacy level with the player, unlock new abilities, and even special illustrations. Give your favorite Gyees gifts to fast-track intimacy growth and you can even unlock dating scenes or special quests.
GYEE has a typical array of expected features beyond the main story. Daily quests, user profiles, and the use of stamina items are all there, just like any other gotcha-game. However, one feature that GYEE really holds over others is player interaction. After reaching the appropriate level, players unlock the open end messaging system for easy communication, guild and team building, and calling for help on those missions that you just need a little boost to get past. If the in-game chat feature doesn’t prove efficient for players, they can always join the official GYEE Discord server, or check out the English version of GYEE‘s official website.
As per the game’s motto, “Hope you can live the life you want, and enjoy it!” Embark on your bara fueled adventure in GYEE, now on the App Store and Google Play.
