It’s a sad day for Azur Lane fans. Yostar announced that the game has had to remove several skins due to issues with the Google Play Store’s policy. The skin’s removal occurred on January 5 at midnight (UTC-7). The official Azur Lane X account clarified that any player who purchased the skins before their removal will retain access to them. However, other players will no longer be able to buy the in-game outfits. Yostar also announced that the Azur Lane ongoing event, “Port Fashion Collection: Holiday Special Vol.05,” and its rental outfits would end early on January 4, 11:59 p.m. (UTC-7). All players will receive a 2x Gear Skin Box (Night Club) as compensation for this baffling inconvenience.
Azur Lane Skin Removal — Why Though?
Both character and skin removal have occurred on the Chinese server before. In 2021, the game developers removed 18 characters from the Chinese servers. However, this is the first time a removal has occurred in the game’s English version. Fans have expressed confusion over the removal and have pointed out that several other skins are far more explicit. This fact makes the removal seem arbitrary, especially as some skins, such as Atago’s, are years old.
The affected outfits were:
- Atago’s (Heavy Cruiser) Summer March
- Chitose’s (Light Aircraft Carrier) Summer Shine
- Hindenburg (Heavy Cruiser) Delirious Duel
- Napoli (Heavy Cruiser) Dreamy Night
- Shinano (Aircraft Carrier)Visions of Fantasy
Fears of future censorship have ignited the Western online Azur Lane community. Players have again expressed their wish on forums like Reddit for the game to transition to a PC game. It’s believed that this would allow more explicit content and give the game a way to circumvent external censorship. However, Yostar has never firmly commented on the possibility of the game switching from mobile to PC.
