Comiket 96 is over and done with but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy that which it gave us just a bit longer.
On August 19, the official Toho Animation YouTube channel uploaded a promotional video for the upcoming anime adaptation of the hugely popular mobile game, Azur Lane. The game, which recently celebrated an anniversary aboard the USS Iowa, officially launched in China and Japan in 2017 but is now available in English via the iOS and Android app stores. The anime adaptation will premiere this coming October.
We don’t know a whole lot about this series as of yet. What we do know for certain is that the series and star Yui Ishikawa as Enterprise and Mai Nakahara as Akagi reprising their roles from the game. We also know that the animation will be produced by the relatively new anime studio Bibury Animation Studio with Tensho as director. Jin Haganeya will be writing the scripts.
What we don’t know, however, is what story this adaptation is going to follow. In the actual game that the series is based on, players control moe manifestations of early 20th century warships and do battle against bad guys in an alternate WWII era world.
If the 49-second promotional video is any indication though, we’re going to be in for a ship-girl good time when this one finally hits the airwaves!
